getting alsa driver to work


Hi

i am running slackware 9
folowed this post here
grate help to.

got them installed but when i load up KDE i get the error message

informational - artsmessage
sound server informational message:
error while intitalizing the sound driver
device /dev/dsp can;t be opened (no such device)
the sound server will continue using the null output device.

any one have any ideas what i am missing here!

a question: alsa driver are working? did you tried to play something (not in kde of course)?

hmmm, did you run ./snddevices. And also what myst said, is sound working?

how do i go about playing a MP3 from the command line ?

its ok its all working now

folowed the guide on alsa site for my chipset and works

happy that everything's works fine.

if you wanna play some mp3s on the command line interface just try mpg123, mplayer.... etc. etc.
