getting a HP deskjetD2345 to work

ok I went through all the steps to setup cups at http://linuxprinting.org
and my printer still isent working
befor I started
I hooked up the printer
made the node /dev/usb/lp0
uncommented the line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules to load usblp
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
rebooted
ran the http://localhost:631 in a browser tab so
I could switch between the how-to and the setup tool
the printer has the light on like it's ready to go
but when I try to print it just sits there and dose
NOTHING when I check the print jobs in the http://localhost:631
tool it reports the print job has completed with no errors

I don't know what other info to give you here to help you guys
help me to solve this problem

Are you really using Slack 9.1?

In the up-to-date Slack distributions, you should only have to install and load hplip (and cups, obviously) and go straight to cups config in your browser.

well I got the hplip sources and installed them
the problem could well have been that the user that I was running the tests as
wasn't a member of the lp group
another problem could have been that the slack distro diden't come with a D2300 .ppd file
but I have it working now

I don't know which Slack version you are using, but there are official packages in the distribution for both Slack 11 (in /extra, if I remember correctly) and Slack 12. Of course, you can always compile from sources yourself.

Glad you got it fixed:-) So you're not sure how you fixed it?

I think the problem was that user rob was not a member of group lp

Actually, no. I checked and it was in /testing, not /extra like I thought. The package in /slackware/ap is hpijs, which is not the same thing.

Yep, that's where I've encountered problems for user hitest, when I was not a member of a group. Thanks for the reply:-)

I don't see how this can be true, either. hplip has supported the 2345 printer from version 1.6.6. The slack 11.0 version is 1.6.9. Slackware packages are rarely if ever modified from the upstream source.

Your right support for this printer starts at 1.6.6
the version I installed is 2.7.7
OH WELL I got it working that's what matters most to me
