gedit-like app?

Is there a gedit app that doesnt rely on kde or gnome, just does fine by itself? I use nedit but it freezes on me alot. Is there another app like this? Thank you.

tea is a unique editor with lots of features. Not like gedit, but it's worth a look. There is a slack package on linuxpackages.net.

home page is http://tea.linux.kiev.ua/

I'm surprised nedit locks. It's been stable for my limited usage.

I've also had good luck with nedit, but I've also used SciTE which you'll also find on linuxpackages.net. On my system SciTE works a little better as far as keyboard shortcuts, but I like the syntax highlighting better with nedit.
I've recently been working with cooledit(linuxpackages.net) which will also edit binary files.

I like it personally because it has some nice search features and go to line features for editing.
But most of the time i use nedit to do work.

GOod luck

Ive installed Tea with ./configure, make, make install

but if I call tea in the commandline, it says command not found?

how do I call the program? I read the 'readme' but all it tells you to do is how to install it.

did you do: `sudo make install` or did `make install` as root? it won't install unless it has permission to

I did 'make install'

thanks, 'sudo make install' worked like a charm.

i'm using edit (great name, it's intended for use with rox filer)
url is http://rox.sourceforge.net/phpwiki/index.php/Edit

you'll need rox libraries (quite small) to run, but it's a great and fast program and similar to gedit!

Katoob is almost identical to gedit but miles faster and smaller and does not need gnome. I use it for everything. Tabs, spellcheck, syntax highlight, word-wrap, even a dictionary in the cvs version.
