GDM fails on X boot: How do I switch to KDM?
Hi all:
Like the subject states, I'm having trouble with GDM. X starts just fine, but then gives me a crappy gray screen and stays there (indefinitely). I would like to switch my .Xinitrc or something to boot KDM or XDM, I don't care which. I would prefer Kdm, simply because I only have a USB keyboard and therefore cannot choose which OS to boot at the LILO prompt, and therefore must use KDM's shutdown options. Thank you for your help, I'm sure there's a simple solution that I couldn't find in the man pages. If this looks bad, it's because I'm using lynx right now...(long story). |
/etc/rc.d/rc.4
you can comment out the gdm section. this pushes to kdm. Not sure what lilo has to do with kdm but ..... |
Thank you very much for responding. I will test that right now...

Failed, somewhat...
KDM will load, but when I try to login as anyone but a root user, then it will "accept" the password, blank the screen, and return to the KDM main screen. Do my normal users not have access rights to X or something? How would I go about fixing this? Would it be better to just reinstall? |
