gdk-pixbuf update

Slackware 9.0 ships with gdk-pixbuf 0.17.0, a program im trying to compile (Ximian Evolution) need a version of gdk-pixbuf >0.18.0.

so i grabed gdk-pixbuf-0.22.0.tar.gz did configure, make, make install. everything seems to go great, except evolutions ./configure script still thinks i have 0.17.0

I checked out the configure script, and it seems to do these two commands to find the version:

Code:
root@windsok:/# gnome-config --modversion gnomecanvaspixbuf
gnomecanvaspixbuf-0.17.0
root@windsok:/# gnome-config --libs gnomecanvaspixbuf
-rdynamic -L/usr/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lgdk_pixbuf -lgtk -lgdk -lgmodule -lglib -ldl -lXext -lX11 -lm -lgnomecanvaspixbuf
im a bit of a newbie at this kind of thing, and i was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers as to howto make gnome-config recognise the new version of gdk-pixbuf

Thanks alot for any help!

Cheers.

Ok i figured this out, the new version of gdk-pixbuf installed to /usr/local/lib and gnome-config looks in /usr/lib, so i made a symlink from /usr/lib/gdk_pixbufConf.sh -> /usr/local/lib/gdk_pixbufConf.sh and it works now. Is this the way i should have done it?

Well actually you should have done ./configure --prefix=/usr

But I guess your method will do too... although it does seem a bit messy

By the way, it would help if you removed the existing gdk-pixbuff package from your system before installing the new version.

so running ./configure --prefix=/usr when configuring gdk-pixbuf would force it to install to /usr/lib instead of /usr/local/lib ?
