gDesklets / aDesklets and my mouse and keyboard

What needs installing and how so I can use gDesklets and/or aDesklets? How do I change my keyboard map to UK style, and how do I make the scrool wheel work on my mouse? I am using a fresh installation of Slackware 10.0 with xfce.
