Gaining back the clock
 

Hello,everyone!:) It's been a while that I didn't post a message in Slackware forum. No question?No.No time?Yes.

First of all,like many others, I have installed dropline-gnome 2.10.1 on my computer. However, suddenly, after I uninstalled some program, my clock was disappeared and prompt me a message every time I login. The error message is something like "You clock applet is missing, delete/ ....." Do you guys have any similiar problem? How can I gain back my clock?

Secondly, I would like to upgrade my dropline-gnome to 2.10.2. I have downloaded the ISO file but don't know how to upgrade it. Do you have any clue?

I would be thankful if you guys would give me some advice on the above question. Thanks a billion! :D

No clue?No solution? :confused:

I suggest maybe reinstalling dropline to get the clock back.
As for the ISO I guess its a CD image you will need to burn. Not sure about best prog for that but I use NeroLinux.

If you've already created a cd from the iso file then it's fairly simple. I usually do this from command line and logged in as root (not from a root terminal).
1. Put the Dropline 2.10.2 CD into your drive and mount it.
2. Cd to /pathto/cd/dropline-gnome.
3. Upgrade the dropline installer to the most recent one on the cd.
4. Cd back to the root "prompt".
5. Run dropline-installer.
6. Select "Preferences" and then press enter to select "OK".
7. Select "Set Source" and then press enter to select "OK".
8. Press your spacebar to remove the x by Internet.
9. Select CDROM and press spacebar to put an x by it.
10. Press enter to select "OK", this takes you back to the Preferences menu.
11. Select "Back" and press enter.
12. Select "Upgrade" and then press enter to select "OK".
13. Upgrade commences.
Which program did you uninstall?

BTW, we'll be releasing Dropline Gnome 2.12.0 Beta in the next day or two, so you might want to look at upgrading Slackware to 10.2 and maybe giving that a try later on. I've been running the "alpha/beta" for about a week now and, while we are still working on the udev/dbus/hal problem (that seems to be affecting all of the Slackware 10.2/Gnome projects out there) it's "close enough" right now to open the beta to wider testing.

MMYoung,thanks for your reply with detailed procedure to upgrade my dropline-gnome. :)

By the way, I didn't remember which program I uninstalled before which makes me losing my clock. But what I wanna do is gaining back my clock because it's soooo important.

Hope that with MMYoung's assistance,the dropline-gnome 2.12 will be released soon!

The clock applet is actually tied to Evolution for calender features. Breakage usually occurs on selective installs that omit this. It would, unfortunately, require a rebuild of gnome-panel to disallow its linking. You may be able to get away with installing only evolution-webcal in order to keep it from crashing.

You can keep your system up-to-date by running the dropline-installer. For instance, even if you install with an older 2.10.0 ISO image, the installer will bring you up to the most recent version if you use the "update" feature. All of the 2.10.x series releases use the same index file on our server.

That's exactly what I did when I tried out myself with the ISO image of dropline-gnome 2.10.2. After upgrading, my clock is back!!! :D

P.S. Just can't wait for the release of 2.12 for my Slackware 10.2 on desktop!I'm loving it! :cool:

You will need to use "upgradepkg dropline-installer-2.12.0-i686-0dl.tgz", and then run "dropline-installer" and choose the "upgrade" option.

But I know the folks there is working very hard to release 2.12.0 very soon. I just love dropline-gnome too much,can't wait for that.:)
