GAIM .70 Slackware argh!!!

Ok, wanted to get on yahoo with gaim .70. Ive installed gaim .70 2 times, the second time I completely removed all gaim files on this machine. Then I configured (had to specify lbnss3 location) as non root, did everything except make install as non root user. Still after all is done, root launches gaim .70 fine, non root gets all these graphics related errors:

** (gaim:31526): CRITICAL **: Unable to load stock pixmap about_menu.png

** (gaim:31526): CRITICAL **: Unable to load stock pixmap accounts.png

** (gaim:31526): CRITICAL **: Unable to load stock pixmap typed.png

** (gaim:31526): CRITICAL **: Unable to load stock pixmap typing.png

Not a file permission problem, all files are world readable. Another curious thing is when I access the accounts screen, all gaim accounts have "unknown" protocol where yahoo/msn/aol should be. Not a prob for root though! And any attempt at adding a new account dumps core and gaim exits. Iv'e heard other folks complain of the same issue with no resolution. I do NOT want to run gaim as root... Any ideas??

Have you tried the slack pack of the latest gaim? Not sure if it would help but I've found odd situations, such as with ETerm and libast for slackware, that even after installing libast properly Eterm couldn't find it when I ./configured it.... I installed the slackpack of libast from www.linuxpackages.net and ./configured Eterm again and it worked fine.

re GAIM .70 Slackware

hmmm I have had similar problems with other programs and have usually found that the directory permissions haven't been set correctly. This may be the answer to your problem.

I guess I have to do that aswell. Compiling goes fine, starting it gives the error:

gaim: error while loading shared libraries: libnss3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

How do specify? Why does this error come up anyway?

Fixed: rather simpel, ./configure --with-nss-libs=/usr/lib/mozilla-1.4/

Works perfect!
