FX5200/ Printer help

I have just installed Slackware 10.1 as a dualboot with XP and it seems to have went well. So far I have figured out how to fix a few problems but I am stuck on a few others.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with a FX5200 graphics card. I have searched the forum for how to install the Nvidia driver and have found plenty about it but it just doesn't make sense to me. First off when I go to the Nvidia site there is two drivers listed for Linux. Which one do I get? Secondly I am completely lost when it comes to installing the driver. I can't even figure out how to start this process. I guess if someone could point me in the right direction to a step by step for someone who is extremely new to this I would appreciate it. What I have found so far is beyond my understanding.

Next issue is the printer. I have a Samsung ML-1210. I have typed localhost:631 into the browser and cups does not recognize a printer in its interface. From this point I have no clue on what to do or how to do it. The printer connects via usb.

I guess being so new to this that a lot of this just makes no sense to me. I will continue trying to search the forum and google to see if I can figure it out but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

if you have a normal 32bit system (as in not 64bit) then select I32 as the driver you want. (if you get lost, heres a direct link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-7174.html ) When you have the file, shutdown X (assuming you use the default runlevel 3, if not, telinit 3) and then log in as root. issue:
Code:
sh NVIDIAxxxxx.run # cant remember the exact package name
The installer will guide you thru. You can safely skip the ftp lookup, there is none for slackware. It will then compile the module for you..

And lastly, _do not forget_ to make the modifications to your xorg.conf as instructed by the README.. ( ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...174/README.txt )

Have you tried ading the printer to cups? (localhost:631 -> printers -> login as root -> add)

Thanks for the Nvidia help. It appears that it is working correctly after being sent in the right direction. It was a big help. The printer I am still trying to figure out. When trying to add it to the cups interface in the browser (localhost:631), one of the things that needed filled in was printer location. I guess this is where I need to learn my way around the system. I have no clue on what to put. I have been trying to figure this out by reading some info on my printer at Linuxprinting.org and at shilo.is-a-geek.com

Anyway thanks again for the help and thanks for the telinit 3 tip. Another thing that I need to spend a lot of time studying- commands.

the location fild in the first page of the adding is a tad misleading.. Thats a filed to type something like "in the store room" or similar.. (:

The actual device location is further on, and easier to set up.. (:
