Question Full Walkthrough

If anyone is interested, I am looking for a full Slackware Walkthrough from Installation to Extra Stuff. My friend and I are looking to put up a new web server and are waiting anxiously for the "new" computer to arrive. When it comes, we're ready to wipe it clean and start over with the stable and trustworthy Linux. But, I have VERY MINIMAL experience in working with Linux. Putting it bluntly, the cmd line scares me at the moment. I would like to learn how to manipulate Slackware without having to ask for help everytime, but for now, time is of the essence.

If you are interested, my email address is:

slakware2001@yahoo.com

My AIM name is slakware2001newb

Since we have an alternate Win ME comp we're working off of now, we can talk using that during the setup.

The following items would need to be installed to make this move worthwile:

Slackware Linux (Current 9/25/03)
GUI (Gnome, KDE - we'll figure that out later)
Ethernet connection to router, Cable Modem
Web Browser
Apache Web Server v2.0.48
***Anything else required to run a functioning, secure web server***

If possible, mail server too.

Please email me to get more info, set up installation times, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help. If this goes well, I will be a true Linux convert. Thanks again.

Well to tell you the truth and on a side note, Slackware doesn't come with nice GUI tools and if your going to be using this as a server, I wouldn't recommend installing X. Its only wasted space and resources.

Before asking to walk thru a whole setup, you should really try searching and maybe reading the Slackware book at www.slackware.com which would guide you in installing, configuring the basics.

Also not sure but if you want the latest apache 2.0.47 or something like that, Slackware comes with the latest 1.3.28 series I do believe which is still proven to be more stable at this time IMHO.

You should really only ask members here specific questions.. were not really here to write novels, as that is usually found already online, just have to search for it.

Regards.
