Fresh install - xfce freeze

Hi.
I have just installed Slackware 13.37.
After the install - when executing startx for the first time, the xfce desktop freezes when its almost (?) fully loaded.

While loading I can move mouse and if I hit caps_lock the lamp at the keyboard turns on and off.

In the setup I choosed to use vesa - allthoug I afterr that even tried to boot from lilo into vga-mode.

I am, a litle rusty after have been brainwashed through Ubuntu for a few years (sigh) - so I really am not sure which config-file I should edit, and xorg.conf seems to be empty.

Any ideas.?

Which graphics card are you using? Does this only happen in XFCE or in others such as Fluxbox as well? Also you might find some clues by looking at the output of the console (ctrl+alt+F1 to view text, ctrl-alt-F7 to go back to graphical).

I'd guess at it being something to do with the graphics driver your using. Personally, I always switch to the proprietary driver as soon as I install. There will likely be a more intelligent reply to your question soon..

My graphics card is a simple via S3 - I would be surprised if that is not supported.

I am not able to come further than the first login where xfce come up automagicly before you reboot and then are presented to a login manager.

I am not sure if that have with the graphics-driver to do, ok I accepted to install the tty-frambuffer module, but is it loaded when I boat from lilo in pure vga mode.?

And I don't think that there are just the graphic-drivers it depends on. As I earlier stated, My input devices are locked. I can not swich to tty or do anything else.

Anyway - thankyou for your answer.

edit: I se now that I had not told that the input devices are locked - sorry.
