Thumbs down Fresh install, after a couple of boots, goes through bios check then, blank screen!

i'll make it short and sweet, im super pissed/frustrated.

now that that is out of the way lets get to the tech part.

i just installed 10.2, loaded the pkg disc, including all the 2.6 modules etc, i did xorgconfig like i have a million times. Now, i try startx but it says no screens found (i made a mistake the first time i ran xorgconfig and skipped the card database). Okay so i run xorgconfig once again and do it correctly, it starts kde and everything is cool. so then i pico xorg.conf and set up my mouse scroll. I believe this is when i loaded the pkg disc and used pkgtool to load the 2.6 modules (i may have done this before xorg.conf but i'm not sure).

Well I restart and go into windows to do something, then i try to boot into linux. So it says "BIOS Check Successful" then the next screen that SHOULD be the frame buffered screen i guess it's called with the little penguin logo on the top right of the screen with all the file system checks or whatever scroll down on... well instead of that i get a blank screen. At first I thought it just went into a powersave mode or screen saver type of thing but it responds to nothing (i.e. ctrl+alt+del).

any ideas please?

Smile look for some more suggections

"loaded the pkg disc, including all the 2.6 modules etc,"
may be second disk
"i did xorgconfig like i have a million times.""
do #xorgsetup

i think frame buffer is causing the problem
this is my guess..
earlier u didnt loaded the module of ur card(say nvidia), so it took vesa and booted. now when u installed the modules for 2.6 ur module is loaded (provided with slack)and it seems the module may not be compatible (or a clash with incompatible modules loaded-like rivafb and nvidia will clash)

if so u try booting with 1st cd at the boot prompt
boot: bare.i root=/dev/hdax noinitrd ro
bare.i or the kernel u use to boot and
root=/dev/hdax ur / partition /

and then
1. edit lilo to standard vga,
2. run lilo

if u can boot, no problem then install the driver for ur corresponding display driver(nvdia). installer wil make module for u
