Hello, I recently upgraded from the 2.4 kernel to 2.6.14.4 (I needed to as ndiswrapper wouldn't work with 2.4). I have been noticing that when I download large files or am on the internet for a long enough time everything freezes, sometimes the mouse still moves and sometimes everything goes. I was receiving messages about the kernel stack being 4k instead of 8k (in those situations the kernel I made didn't have the 4k option on but still complained of this) and today I built a kernel where that message doesn't come up when I build ndiswrapper; yet it still freezes. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your replies; however I am not running an Nvidia card, I have one from ATI; however I will check my .config file to see if there are any nvidia type modules that are being used on startup. One thing also, is it because I'm using framebuffer? I use it but I don't get the penguin at bootup...
The problems I had were odd; I have generally ONLY used slackware based distros because I have heard of slack's legendary stability and simplicity which I liked. In all of the distros I have used when I compile ndiswrapper and installed the driver and then modprobe, the modprobe command leads to an error, or a crash, or anything that makes the system unusable until a reboot is performed; so to fix the problem I usually just upgrade the kernel and it works perfectly. It only freezes when I have been on the internet long enough or downloaded something big (such as the FRG .iso).
