Well, it does appear I am updating from the -current mirror, although I didn't know that before checking just now. That might explain why FreeCAD worked upon initial installation, but stopped in the intervening couple of months between uses.

Can I safely go back to updating from 14.2 or am I screwed?

I manage a dozen Slackware systems and routinely do the update sequence you describe. I must have erroneously uncommented the -current mirror on this one.

I would first make a full backup just in case, then change the mirror, do a slackpkg update && slackpkg upgrade-all.

You will also have to remove the packages added to -current and reinstall the packages removed from -current. Good luck.

To remove new things that were added with -current, there's `slackpkg clean-system`, which will remove installed packages that are not from the mirror you selected (you must do `slackpkg update` first). Be careful to go through the list and choose which ones you want to keep, though, because it will also remove things from third-party sources (including SBo and Alien Bob). Some of your SBo packages will probably have to be rebuilt anyway, though.

OK, I was able to do as montagdude suggested and get my system back to 14.1. I had to rebuild FreeCAD and LibreOffice, this time with libedit removed and w/o the OpenGL issue.

Thanks!
