Fraunhofer MP3 patent expired

Hi,

I just stumbled over this.

https://www.iis.fraunhofer.de/en/ff/...odecs/mp3.html

Looks like the next Slackware release will be able to ship MP3 encoders.

Cheers,

Niki

the h264 and h265 codecs are patented (like the mp3 one was)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_E...y_Video_Coding

the x264 and x265 softwares (used to encode and decode those codecs) are GPL (lame is LGPL).

is this part of expired patents ?

Fraunhofer FDK AAC ?

If yes, i think good to ADD , for m4a support in ffmpeg.

Please read about the differences between MP3 (old) and AAC (new) audio codecs. If you do that, your question would not be necessary.
