Forgot password. Please help.

I have a drive formatted with Slackware 9.0.1 that I last used in Feb 07
but haven't been using Slack in some time - bad me.

The drive uses lilo to boot but never gives me the chance to issue a "linux single" or control-x.

There is no section that addresses booting so I'm trying here.

Any help would be appreciated - it's my entire music collection.

boot from a LiveCD and mount the drive. Then clear the password OR chroot in and change the password

Thanks AlucardZero.

As I was setting up to use a live cd, I suddenly remembered
an old password and it worked.

I've made a note on what you said although I've actually used that technique
before. Luckily, it's a long time between forgotten passwords so each time I have
to start from scratch <g>.

That what I do:

first:
add
Code:
init=/bin/sh
in your lilo or grub before boot;

second:

After you log in(now you should be in a terminal);
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /
third:

Code:
passwd
and your root password will be change to what you typed.

During the slack 10.x or 11 I think, I have tried editing the /etc/passwd file and set the root password to blank. Will that still work nowadays?
