For Pat package slang1

Pat, just a question, are you sure slang1 is needed on slack-current now,

it seem just aalib, is linked on it.

thanks,

gmgf

Some people might still be using it for other things too. Is there a reason you want it removed?

mancha 06-29-2013 10:06 AM

After just a very cursory look, seems at least aaxine and any program that uses gst-plugins-good use it.

Like Stephen, I am puzzled by the remove request.

gmgf 06-29-2013 10:20 AM

Yes, i agree, but it's probably, because these packages depend on aalib, and aalib depend on slang1 and slang.

Didier Spaier 06-29-2013 10:57 AM

I think that Pat is pretty picky when examining requests for removal, and rightly so.

So, for your request be considered, I guess that you'll need a stronger rationale than "I don't need it" ;)

gmgf 06-29-2013 11:13 AM

Probably, but just a question, i think slang1 is obsolet, but maybe I'm wrong. ;)

If it is obsolete it could be replaced by something better whose introduction wouldn't break packages or applications that depend on it. Which one would you propose?

gmgf 06-29-2013 11:31 AM

i think slang only.

gmgf 06-29-2013 02:04 PM

Another raison slang1 is not present in fedora since fedora-6, no present in debian, in archlinux, probably gentoo and other........... ;)

If this reason is adequate, let's remove init.

gmgf 06-30-2013 01:20 AM

sysvinit is used and maintained, but slang1 is probably useless and also unmaintained since 10 years

Where did you get that impression? Sysvinit is Slackware's process 0, it is just used with BSD style scripts:
Code:

tobi ~ ☺ $ slackpkg info sysvinit

PACKAGE NAME:  sysvinit-2.88dsf-i486-2.txz
PACKAGE LOCATION:  ./slackware/a
PACKAGE SIZE (compressed):  76 K
PACKAGE SIZE (uncompressed):  200 K
PACKAGE DESCRIPTION:
sysvinit: sysvinit (init, the parent of all processes)
sysvinit:
sysvinit: System V style init programs by Miquel van Smoorenburg that control
sysvinit: the booting and shutdown of your system.  These support a number of
sysvinit: system runlevels, each with a specific set of utilities spawned.
sysvinit: For example, the normal system runlevel is 3, which starts agetty
sysvinit: on virtual consoles tty1 - tty6.  Runlevel 4 starts xdm.
sysvinit: Runlevel 0 shuts the system down.
