Fonts on Porteus/Slackware

At the prompting of the only venerable 'nix wizard I know of addressing the only achilles heel of Linux in general, I have opened this thread about font management on Linux. In this case, I'm running Porteus (a fork of Slackware) and
1. created /.local/share/fonts
2. and ran fc-cache -f -v
3. my terminal recognized the 438 fonts and "cache succeeded" displays
result? still no fonts in app menus so I
4. downloaded the msttcore-fonts-2.0-6.noarch.rpm
5. did an rpm2trgz conversion
6. converted the new trgz file to an .xzm module and activated it
result? still no fonts in app menus so I
7. did an rpm2xzm conversion and activated the resulting module
result? the mstt core fonts became available to apps but the 438 fonts in the /.local/share/fonts folder are still missing from my app menus.

I poked around looking for the active font folder unsuccessfully. If I'm told where it is, I can move the 438 fonts to it and delete the faulty directory.

to install TTF/OTF fonts in Slackware you can follow the dedicated guide on the Slackware Documentation Project.

if this doesn't work on porteus maybe you can have a better help on the porteus forum.

Much thanks ponce. All fonts visible now! How do I identify OTF fonts and how are they different from Type 1 Adobe fonts? Also, are compressed fonts recognized in these folders or must they be uncompressed?
