Fonts messed up in gvim

The fonts in places are unreadable and show as a mess of dots. This was after a hurried few upgrades while waiting for some code to compile. Unfortunately I didn't take a lot of notice of what packages were upping :/

This happened before a few weeks back and I fixed it but can't for the life of me remember which package I had to downgrade.

Anyone else got/had this problem?

*** SOLVED ***

Downgraded cairo to 1.2.4
Also downgraded pango to 1.10.4 to stop a couple of non-fatal errors
