fluxbox questions

hi

i am interested in using fluxbox for my windows manager... thing is, i dont know how to do anything in it lol

my question is how do i get a file viewer thing so i dont have to look for everything through the e term thing?

Try copying the menu from /usr/X11R6/share/fluxbox into your /home/user/.fluxbox directory and editing it to suit your needs.

Fluxbox doesn't have a file manager. It only does windows. Try typing 'konqueror' into an eterm to get the KDE file manager.

you could use any one, really, no just konquruer
gentoo (not the distro) is good

I like rox filer (see screenshot). Just edit ~/.fluxbox/menu, instructions are on the fluxbox website.

Longinus 02-12-2004 09:28 PM

oh yeah one more question

when i open xterm and open konqueror and then i close the xterm window , it closes my konqueror window also , is there a way of getting around this?

Tyir 02-12-2004 09:32 PM

well in fluxbox you shud put your mina programs in the menu list (when u r-click)
do:
pico ~/.fluxbox/menu
and add in your entry

and then reload config in the menu
and it shud show up, and no xterm was needed!

If you want to run something from the xterm, do
konquerer&
do keep it in the background of the xterm

Kovacs 02-12-2004 09:33 PM

Not that I'm aware of, put konqueror straight into your fluxbox menu so you don't have to launch it from a terminal, with something like this:

[exec] (konqueror) {kfmclient openProfile filemanagement}

for the file manager, or

[exec] (konqueror) {konqueror}

for the browser component (although Mozilla Firefox wipes the floor with konqueror as a browser).

Longinus 02-12-2004 09:40 PM

oh ok didnt know you could edit that stuff lol

thanks guys

oh! i have another question! lol

i got this fluxbox a while ago.. how would i go about upgrading it.?.. lol

Well, it is Slackware. So get the tarball from fluxbox site and from the CLI just do....
upgradepkg <flux version>.tgz

nebeSaynebe 02-13-2004 01:18 AM

Well u seemed to distance from CD rate events when installing from CD, am happy where to addess the rate events, unspuorius, that not apply to that one, but the google clips, don't bother. Without the one fagits we ll not even come to discuss.

Hurra, I prefer playing CD cover side down
Surely slackware tarballs are cool then rpm complicacies.

OFF-TOPIC: Nice fonts in aterm

Hi Kovacs,

Sorry for the off-topic question, but your screenshot has awesome fonts in aterm. They seem like M$ Comic Sans. I already have that font being used in Linux (also did mkfontscale and mkfontdir), but when I choose it using the -fn opton in aterm, I get letters very separated from each other. Besides, in xfontsel I only get the 12-point size...

Can you share your recipe for such nice fonts?

Tks,

MP

Kovacs 02-13-2004 03:28 PM

I never did anything special for it, I just copied the line from the fonts.dir for that font and pasted it into my .Xdefaults.

aterm*font: -font-name-here

I actually found that it's not really a great font for a lot of stuff (I do a lot of php coding) because it's missing a couple of characters. I've gone back to trusty old 9x15 until I can find a better one.
