what is your current distro ?
if you are using RH or Fedora then i do recommend to download .rpm from fluxbox.org, it worked for me on my FC. |
ooops, I lately seen it "slackware"

I had a problem with this also which is why I just went with .98 version instead of .99.. that's an easy update with swaret.. but I told you that earlier. Is there anyone who knows the real differences between the 2? Because .98 also supports transparency?

I tryed .98 and i tar xvzf <package name> then i 'cd' and when i type in ./configure nothing happens at all so i looked in the folders and i cant find the ./configure file or the make files in my .99 version i use the source versin i think its called and the files are there but i get all those errors please help me people, my blackbox also has errors does this affect fluxbox?

Ive installed swaret and it whats a network connection or something it tells me to look at the conf file etc so i tryed to install flux using the packege handler in kde it installed but it loads my old .14 version even thought i uninstalled it using the packege handler. I should also add that ive changed it from eth0 to ppp0 in my swaret.conf so that isnt the problem with swaret but it still ask that question do i have to connect to the net or something to install a package using swaret coze i havent tryed to get my modem going yet(win modem had it going in mandrake and redhat). O.K. i should add a problem ive found after i exit x i read some of the text above and it says this repeativly " kcmshell:warning:KDE detected X error : Badmatch (invalid) parameter attributes \Xo8 major opcode : * " i dont have a clus what that all means (other then its a X problem) so can you also help me with that.(i should almost be paying you lol).

I had a problem compiling fluxbox 0.9.9 too, not sure if exactly the smae compile error, but I ended up grabbing the .tgz package from a link on fluxbox.org - runs perfectly on xfree864.4 and 2.6.5 kernel - it's nice to compile stuf yourself but if it gives too much hassle I reckon it's simpler just to use the package system
link to the fluxbox 0.9.9 slackware package:- http://beam.to/taq/downloads/fluxbox-0.9.9-i386-1.tgz |
Ive tryed that one it says that there isnt a ./comfigure script or a make script, ive looked around inside it and still cant find the scripts the koncole cant as well i dont know why. Please there must be a person who can help, or have some sort of idea what to do.

This may sound silly, but have you checked to see if you have any disk space on the partition where you're trying to build? It sounds like the tar balls are incomplete or that there's not enough space for them to be expanded.
Try to run 'df' to check your disk space, and/or run 'md5sum' on the tarballs you downloaded. In fact, it's a good idea to always check the md5sum on any source you download, just to make sure you're getting what you think you are. Enjoy! --- Cerbere |
I should have 20 gig

Hey, first of all make sure to swaret --upgrade fluxbox from the console (not while running fluxbox)... second.. it may actually be upgrading but you don't know it. The menu that says fluxbox-0.14 etc at the top is in your /home/user/.fluxbox directory so you can edit it to say .98 or whatever with pico if you like. Or you can simply delete the .fluxbox directory rm -r --force .fluxbox and it will show the new version for you (however you'll lose any edits you made to the menu..)

sorry for being slow, but the .tgz I linked to above - you're not talking about looking for a .configure in that are you? if so you ain't likely to find one since it's a pre-compiled binary, it's a slackware package, just type
installpkg fluxbox-0.9.9-i386-1.tgz as root and then start X, rememebering to change over your xwmconfig if you need to. voila - new fluxbox if you're talking about a different post then ignore me, it's early! ;D |
Opps im so uset to compilein everything i dont realise how easy it is to install precompiled stuff, but its to late ive reinstalled slackware again and didnt install fluxbox and blackbox etc so i could install the new versions without the old one's interfering but i installed the wround kernel for my hdd and it doesnt like it wats the best kernel for ide cd roms and a scsi hdd coze when i had the scsi2 kernel it didnt detect my cdrom right or all my usb ports which is a good all round one?

if you are up and running honestly just build your own 2.6.6 kernel. I've had no problems with it yet and it's much faster than the original 2.4 kernel that's in 9.1

My modem doesnt run under the new kernel ( winmodem )
