Flash player sound problems

I have the flash player 7 installed on my system (Slackware, 2.6.10 Kernel, KDE 3.3.2).
It installed fine, and has put the correct files in the correct places.
It even loads the flash movie when I go to a site.
However, if the flash thing has sound, it plays it choppily and (from what i can gather) at twice the pitch.
It does this in all browsers (firefox 1.0, mozilla 1.7, netscape 7.2) so I'm starting to think it's a driver problem.
Any ideas?
I'm using OSS not alsa. maybe that's something to do with it?
and it does it as root as well as my user.

I had this same problem the other day on my (crappy) sis 7012 chipset. for games, I have to use oss, for flashplayer, I have to use alsa ( or I get the choppy high pitched noise).

unfortunately i can't use alsa, as my chipset (nVidia nForce 3 onboard sound) doesn't seem to work with it.
[nVidia actually said it's an OSS driver].

the nvidia/forcedeth drivers are oss. I don't have an nforce 3, so I'm not sure about comatibility there. My nforce 1 board could use either alsa or oss using i810_audio ( or nvaudio, which was pretty much the same module) for oss and snd-intel8x0 for alsa.
