Fixing GIMP's SlackBuild (for Open Location command)

Owing to a bug in GIMP's build process, the GIMP that is provided with Slackware(64) 14.1 has a non-functioning "File->Open Location..." command. This can be fixed by making a small edit to the gimp.SlackBuild and recompiling.

The change entails adding the --without-gvfs option to the ./configure invocation. Written as a patch, this change is:
Code:
--- gimp.SlackBuild~    2012-06-25 18:55:31.000000000 -0400
+++ gimp.SlackBuild     2015-01-16 00:15:06.423000000 -0500
@@ -80,6 +80,7 @@
   --docdir=/usr/doc/gimp-$VERSION \
   --disable-static \
   --with-libcurl \
+  --without-gvfs \
   --build=$ARCH-slackware-linux

 make $NUMJOBS || make || exit 1
As long as you are re-compiling, you might wish to upgrade GIMP to version 2.8.14, though this version contains the same bug so you need to change the SlackBuild regardless.

I don't have this problem and I didn't rebuild GIMP. I'm using 64-bit -current which is the 2.8.14 version. Where is the bug documented? I'm assuming it's an upstream bug if it's in the build process.

I am glad that things work in -current.

As far as the bug being documented, there have been a few distro reports going back years with the issue of gnome-vfs/libgio/gvfs/libcurl configurations (for one example, Arch FS#12321).

I'm not sure GIMP would consider it a bug as various configurations do work; though to me the --with-libcurl should override usage of gvfs even if gvfs is available, but this might indicate a problem with automake and not the GIMP build scripts (which might explain why -current build works).

Perhaps an alternative solution (to the one I presented) would be to remove the --with-curl from the ./configure, since Slackware does ship with gvfs/libgio. I have not tried this.
