Firefox will not run

I tried updating my old version of firefox from a security update, back when Slackware 14.0 security updates were given, to the latest Slackware 14.1 security update. As a result I can't run firefox. When I try to execute the program from /usr/lib/firefox-38 I get the following errors:

Code:
root@clauxr:/usr/lib/firefox-17.0.11# ./run-mozilla.sh

run-mozilla.sh: Cannot execute .
When I try ./firefox I get
Code:
-bash: ./firefox: No such file or directory
Anyway to fix this problem?

You may be running the 32bit version of Firefox on 64bit Slackware (or maybe vice-versa). I remember a similar issue when I was testing some dev versions of Firefox and downloaded the 32bit version instead of the 64bit.

This might be it. I tried the 64 bit version for Slack 14.1 and got a different error.

Update:
Code:
root@clauxr:~/up# firefox
firefox: /lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.17' not found (required by firefox)
I'm guessing GLIBC 2.17 came with the new Slack, so I updated and problem resolved. However I also tried the Slack 64 current firefox but I need a glibcxx 3.something. I don't think that's an issue, as long as I have the latest patch for 14.1.

Thanks a ton. It's been a while since I used this comp, hence the silly mistake.

Always check the package system requirements.

Just so you know, Firefox included with Slacwkare is compiled on the target system, in this case, 14.1. This means you might end up running into other dependency issues that aren't obvious right now. It might be worth just switching to the binary version released from Mozilla or downloading the source/slackbuild and compiling it yourself.

If you want an easy way to keep it up-to-date, check out forum member ruario's latest-firefox script, which will download the latest binary version (you can have it be the ESR version, if preferred) directly from Mozilla and will convert it to a Slackware package (you can have it auto install it too, with the -i option and running it as root).
