For what it's worth, I have no problems with the page in any browser I have installed, including FF 3.6.3 on 13.1b.

Well, it's hard to say. I have no problem with slackware 13.1b and firefox 3.6.3 with the site you referred. In any case, you can always try to enable patented code in freetype slackbuild, that would fix your problems.

As the section that is getting the scroll bars has input fields/buttons, it may also be a gtk-theme issue.

This is my gtk theme settings. Maybe try those and see if it makes a difference.
Code:

bash-4.1$ cat .gtkrc-2.0
gtk-theme-name = "Xfce-4.4"
gtk-icon-theme-name = "Tango"

Hmm, I just temporarily renamed my .gtkrc-2.0 to something else and restarted firefox, so no gtk-theme was present.

Even so, I still get the scrollbars, so it doesn't see that my gtk-theme could have been the cause. How very strange.
