Firefox Quantum 61.0.1 64-bit, Slackware 14.2 Saved Passwords
 

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to the problem of transferring Firefox Quantum profiles from Windows 7 to Slackware 14.2.

In versions of Firefox prior to Quantum, I was able to simply copy the entire profile folder from Windows to Linux and it would work fine. I always install the same version of Firefox in both operating systems. Starting with Quantum, copying a profile from Windows to Linux mostly works, except for the saved passwords and master password.

Firefox claims that there is no master password set, and if I attempt to set a master password, it displays an error message saying that it failed to change the master password. So, not only are my saved passwords not there, I can't actually save any new passwords after copying the profile. I've tried re-copying or deleting individual files suggested by Mozilla KB posts, but nothing that I do short of creating a brand new empty profile works on Linux.

Creating a completely new profile on Linux works fine, but moving any of those files to the broken profile doesn't fix the problem. I'm starting to wonder if there is something incompatible between the versions of database libraries or software between Windows and Linux. I'm not certain if Firefox uses separate database libraries, or software that is statically linked to the application.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't aware of that service provided by Mozilla. I'm not sure if I want to upload my bookmarks and passwords to a web site though.
