firefox download problem
I'm using Slackware 12.0.When I want to download some stuff from internet using firefox,my firefox will close suddenly.
I started firefox from console and these are the errors; /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.14/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_once_init_enter_impl These are the things I tried to rectify the problem; 1.Reinstall pango 2.Reinstall firefox But my attempts failed.Any solution from you all? I have also alsa problem.But I will elaborate about it after this problem is solved. Thanks for your replies. |
Your Slackware installation is not Slackware-12.0 only.
How did you build/install Firefox-2.0.0.14? Did you check if Slack-12.0 has the dependencies for that version? |
Bruce Hill, Firefox-2.0.0.14 is now available in the patches directory for Slackware 12.0, so it *could* be an official package (ie it IS Slackware12.0).

To the OP ... if you got this from Slackware-12.0 patches, have you upgraded all the other apps in patches? For one, cairo is there... On my test box, which is between 12.0 and -current, I had Firefox-2.0.0.13. I upgraded it from 12.0/patches to 2.0.0.14, launched it from KDE and d/led a file with no problems. Then I launched it from CLI as the OP did, d/led another file, closed Firefox, and it returned to a prompt with no message in the terminal. |
I installed my firefox from slackware packages.
|
Where did you get those slackware packages?
|
I got them from here;
http://packages.slackware.it/package....0.0.14-i686-1 But I think it's really on pango* problem,as I can't start gimp. |
You were downloading from Slackware-current, not Slackware-12.0
That package might be the same, but you should get ALL the security updates from patches for Slackware-12.0. Where there is more than one version, such as Firefox, just get the latest. Then use this command: Code:
root@silas:/tmp# upgradepkg mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.14-i686-1.tgz |
While installing cairo-1.4.12-i486-1_slack12.0.tgz,although it was installed successfully I get some errors;
/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.desktop is not an ELF file - it has the wrong magic bytes at the start. SO can this define my problem? |
check the md5sum of your packages before you install them. They are listed in the security advisory pages and also on the slackware ftp site (and mirror sites).

My problem solved already.I tried reinstalling cairo and pango using .tgz package.
But when I put ldconfig,the following error occured; bash-3.1# ldconfig ldconfig: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.desktop is not an ELF file - it has the wrong magic bytes at the start. Any solution? |
