Firefox doesn't know about URLs of the form mms://foo?

Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0
Firefox 2.0.0.4
xfce 4.4.1

Hi:
When clicking the link http://classicalwebcast.com>Europa>Antena2 64k Stereo, a window opens showing the following notification:
Quote:
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (mms) isn't associated with any program.
As the window title bar has the Firefox logo, I guess the notification is sent by the Firefox web browser, within which I typed the URL above. On the other hand, the URL corresponding to the link above is
Quote:
mms://195.245.168.21/antena2
If, in a terminal, I issue
Code:
$ mplayer mms://195.245.168.21/antena2
, I get connected.

In view of what I have said, am I supposed to think that this issue has to do only with Firefox and not with the desktop environment, which is xfce4? And what would be a first step in the way to a solution? Regards.

Either in about:config or create user.js then add:

/* Multimedia players */
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.mms", "/usr/bin/mplayer");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.external.mms", true);

The above is on Debian, make sure the path to mplayer is correct.

Hi:
Specially grateful to Didier Spaier. I have mplayer running at a click. And please forgive about not having browsed Google with care enough.

@craigevil:
In my O.S., I found that file is

.mozilla/firefox/u88mwxdz.default/prefs.js

I'll have now the lines copied by the GUI into this file written somewhere as a reminder and, at the next Mozilla installation, will copy them back to prefs.js. Thanks a lot.

Wonders why the OP is running such an old version of Firefox?

Quote:
Firefox 2.0.0.4
That version has a million and one security holes in it, you would be well advised to upgrade to the latest version, 4.0.1.

The wonder is my machine. Intel 80686 @735MHz and 256MB RAM. So, you see, a newer version is out of the question for me.
