Firefox-49 and Netflix.
Has anyone had any luck running Netflix in Firefox-49?
I've searched and tried the various suggestions, but nothing works, it always ends in a Netflix error. Yes, widevine is installed.
Thanks.
I can't speak about Netflix, but since the upgrade to 49 or 49.0.1, I can no longer view videos on anything. Even in safe mode, no video. I don't know what happened, but it looks like I'll end up re-installing a new LinuxMint. I wonder if others are having problems w/FF49 and videos??

Yeah, I've given up trying to get Netflix working in FF. Netflix works great with Alien Bob's Chromium and widevine packages. He also has a pepperflash package. Netflix just works with Chromium. Also there's a Chrome slackbuild script in the /extra directory of your Slackware DVD if you prefer Chrome.

hey guys, yes Netflix works with Firefox 49. You have to check "play DRM" under "edit, preferences, content". You also need to install the "user agent switcher" addon and choose Chrome. This is a temporary way until Netflix/Firefox sync better. It is tested and working fine here. Yes, Eric's Chromium build with widevine is also excellent.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have tried all that, but no luck. The last attempt, using chrome as the user agent, Netflix responded that the microsoft silverlight plug-in needed to be installed.

This happened to me as well at first. Make sure you switch the agent string before going to netflix. It will reset to default each time Firefox is closed.

@ ChuangTzu.
Thank you for your suggestions. The string above is almost the same as the last one I tried, the only difference being the addition of the word, Slackware. However, no joy. Perhaps, I should try deleting the present Firefox configuration and starting over from scratch.

If you want to keep your present configuration but still try a new one (so you can go back and forth), you can use Firefox's profile manager. Just run firefox -p and in the popup, create a new profile.

Just FYI:
Sometime over the last day or two or three, Netflix "threw the switch" and their service will now work with the Linux version of Firefox without an agent changer or any other tricks, add-ons, plug-ins, etc.
Current I'm running it in another tab inside of Firefox-52.0.1. No fuss, no muss.

Odd. I gave it a try on Slackware64-current with Firefox-52.0.1. I could log-in to my Netflix account, but, it errored out when I attempted to play a show. This isn't an issue for me as I'll continue to watch Netflix on Chrome. That's cool that it works for you.

Update on HTML5 Video for Netflix
About four years ago, we shared our plans for playing premium video in HTML5, replacing Silverlight and eliminating the extra step of installing and updating browser plug-ins.
Since then, we have launched HTML5 video on Chrome OS, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Firefox, and Edge on all supported operating systems. And though we do not officially support Linux, Chrome playback has worked on that platform since late 2014. Starting today, users of Firefox can also enjoy Netflix on Linux. This marks a huge milestone for us and our partners, including Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla that helped make it possible......
Thanks. I'm not disputing the accuracy of your story. I'm just reporting that for me on Slackware64-current and FF 52.0.1 Netflix doesn't play video. See screengrab.
