if you upgraded to firefox-40.0 I suppose you are using current: the version of firefox in current uses now the version of gstreamer that is the default in current, 1.0.

to have full support for most used codecs in html5 media besides what's already in slackware current you might need additional packages, so you have to build gst1-plugins-bad, gst1-plugins-ugly (you need a patch for that in current) and gst1-libav: look in their respective READMEs for optional dependencies, mainly lame, faac and x264.

if instead you prefer to use youtube with flash, the newer firefox versions don't let you choose by default (they use html5 automatically) but you can install extensions that lets you switch, such as youtube-flash-video-player.

another way to use flash, but it's a trick, is changing the url which is used to see the videos: if your original url is for example this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdz88MBWomo

you can change it to this to force seeing the video using flash

https://www.youtube.com/v/Zdz88MBWomo

You can get audio with FreshPlayer via PepperFlash as well, and it works with YouTube.

Do you have pulsaudio installed for skype. If so you will need alsa-plugins and you may want to read this. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ay-4175550748/

Thanks much for the tip, nitecrawler; your solution worked wonderfully. My .asoundrc file in my home directory worked sufficiently well for up until 40.0; somehow, it wasn't enough for this version. So I guess from now on, I will be utilizing the /etc/asound.conf file.

EDIT: I forget the same format can be used in .asoundrc in my home directory, so I copied from /etc/asound.conf and then deleted it. Sound still works.

I had a working FreshPlayer setup with Firefox until 40.0 (even used your slackworks slackbuild to build FreshPlayer!). Somehow, nitecrawler's suggestion to restore sound worked out better.
