If you are running Slackware 64-bit, Pat V. compiles Firefox from source. I think with Firefox 4, the Mozilla team has started to release pre-compiled 64-bit versions, but I could be mistaken.

As far as I know, with FF4 now even the 32 bit version is being compiled by Pat, and no longer repackaged from Mozilla's binaries. That is what he stated in some previous thread here in the forum. Things can always change, of course.

Proof is in source directory you find a tar.gz of ff4 sources, and a SlackBuild that actually does a compile.

uh? FF4 should be something like 10 times faster than FF3 on same system! how can you see no difference?

I can say that it's NOT 10x faster. It is faster, but not that much faster. It starts faster, loads pages faster, etc. But not by 10x. Up to 2x as fast, but that's it.

I don't notice more RAM being used by FF4, no more than FF3, in fact maybe less.
