firefox-3.5.2 problem on slackware-13

I just upgraded from SW-12.2 to SW-13 using slackpkg. My desktop is xfce, neither KDE nor Gnome are installed (dropline Gnome was once).
I cannot get firefox to run. There's no error message (even on cl), but ldd reports the following missing, even though they are all present in the firefox-3.5.2 directory.

libxul.so => not found
libmozjs.so => not found
libxpcom.so => not found
libplds4.so => not found
libplc4.so => not found
libnspr4.so => not found

If I install seamonkey and seamonkey-solibs I can get this list down to just libxul.so (even though it's present in the firefox directory), but nothing will persuade FF to run. Do I actually need seamonkey?

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, upgrading, erasing config files, profiles, etc. Now I need some magic, please.

Anyone? TIA

Andrew

There's another IDENTICAL thread on the same subject -- the solution IIRC was to check your /etc/ld.so.conf file and see if libsafe is in there, and if it is, remove it.

I will try to locate the thread too, but I suspect you'll find it at least as quick as I can.

do you have libsafe installed?
if you do, remove it or comment an entry at /etc/ld.so.preload

Thanks for your help. Before reading the replies I managed to get rid of the ldd errors by commenting out /usr/lib/seamonkey in /etc/ld.conf. But FF still didn't run. Commenting out libsafe in /etc/ld.so.preload did the trick. Cheers.
