firefox 1.0.1

The Linuxpackages "Mozilla Firefox" on http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=5827
does nor install properly for me in the KDE program menu (goes to lost and found) and does not work with the java and flash plugins.
I don't know why it is so much larger than the previous version

Can't answer that question or even address it, but I installed the latest Firefox directly from Mozilla without issue.

You might want to ask the people who packaged it. For me, the firefox-installer tarball from Firefox itself worked just fine. You do have to make a java plugin link however.
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/jre1.5.0_01/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /path/to/firefox/plugins

in the slackware-current directory:

ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...0.1-i686-1.tgz

here's the directly related changelog notes:
Quote:
Mon Mar 7 22:16:12 PST 2005
xap/jre-symlink-1.0.1-noarch-1.tgz: Adds a symlink to the Java(TM) plugin.
xap/mozilla-firefox-1.0.1-i686-1.tgz: Added Mozilla Firefox (from the
official binary distribution.) Thanks to the Mozilla Foundation! :-)

xap/mozilla-thunderbird-1.0-i686-1.tgz: Added Mozilla Thunderbird (also
from the official binary distribution.)
xap/mozilla-1.7.5-i486-1.tgz: Removed.
xap/mozilla-plugins-1.7.5-noarch-2.tgz: Removed.
xap/netscape-7.2-i686-1.tgz: Removed.
PS: i wonder why he chose to use the firefox/thunderbird binaries instead of compiling i486 slackpacks from source...

nevermind, i found the explanation in the firefox build script:

Quote:
# This is not a source build script. Rather, it builds a Slackware
# package from the official binary tarball available from mozilla.org.
# Using the official binaries seems like the most direct way to satify
# the Mozilla project's concerns about quality control (and thus to
# provide the most quality-certified package possible), and therefore
# be able to use the official trademarks and logos.
#
# Thanks to the folks at the Mozilla Foundation for permission to
# distribute this, and for all the great work! :-)

parallel to firefox inclusion, this is a nice thing also.
a lot of space generated for new things.
great call.

ha ha!

Have been playing with the new slack Firefox. It installs a lot better than using the firefox-installer tool. Much cleaner. I'm quite impressed.

Thanks.

Just wondering, is slackware-current available on the other mirrors? Because I couldn't seem to find it under /pub/slackware.
