Hi, everybody! The question is that I've just acquired a USB X1185 Lexmark Printer but it doesn't run in Slackware 10. Webbing over Google, I discovered it runs with a Z600 driver and I will have to upgrade to kernel-2.6 in order to enable udev. I got scared because Slackware10's kernel-2.4.26 stands for "udev" in /etc
Is it necessary to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel? How do I enable my printer by using a 2.4.26 kernel?
The printer is listed in HCL. If you follow the links, you arrive here, which explains how to get the printer working in Red Hat 9. Since RH9 uses the 2.4.x kernel, there's a chance you'll succeed with Slackware 10. Good luck.
