File transfer from Android tablet changes file names

Howdy all,

Title says it all, kinda. When I transfer everything from my daughter's Galaxy Tab 4 tablet to my Slack 14.1 laptop it changes all the folder names to numbers. All sub folders are changed as well. It also happened with my S3 phone.

What am I missing here? What do I need to do differently?

Thanks in advance!
Scott

Probably the bug with gvfs. See this thread for more info.

Same symptom on a couple of Samsung phones here too, different computers and different distros.

For small quantities of files, I ended up installing gmtp from slackbuilds and using that to transfer.
For more complicated tasks I use a microSD USB card reader.

From the android side of things there are apps in the google play store that will let you share directories or transfer files using different methods, but other than ES File Explorer I haven't played with many of them.

Have a Samsung Tab S 10.1, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. Can transfer files via USB flawlessly to all the devices using AlienBob's KDE-4.14.3 and Dolphin. Used to have problems with file-names before mtp became supported in Linux. Not only the file-names but also the metadata in mp3 and other multimedia files. I was then using a wireless connection with samba. This occurred on Nexus as well as Samsung devices.
