fglrxconfig
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600, installed the ATI 3.7 drivers, now I need to run fglrxconfig. I ran it and it started by asking questions about my mouse. I'm not too sure about this, I'm using a touchpad on my laptop (I think it might be called ALPS or something). I was just wondering if anyone knows how I should answer? And if there's any other important questions it's gonna ask, maybe you could help me out beforehand with the answer.
Please note this is the Radeon 9600 pro mobility, I can just use the regular fglrx drivers, right?

For those questions, if you print out a copy of your current XF86Config file, all the answers to mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. will be in there. And the fglrx drivers will work with Radeon 9600pro Mobility.

Same problem
Hi !
I have similar problem, I got the Freeliner Xp2400 with a Radeon Mobility 9600 in it. I already downloaded and installed the Ati fglrx driver, but I still can't select my card in the xconfig. What am I doing wrong ?
The driver installed without problems on my Red Hat 9 distribution.
Do I have to set something in the xconfig manually, I always tried to use the wizard.
Please somebody know the anwser because I'm going insane here... I hate being a newbie.

Have you run fglrxconfig? I had to edit the XF86Config file to get the right resolution, but you probably won't have to if you're just gonna use a regular resolution. After running fglrxconfig you might need to edit a section in the XF86Config file where you tell it what driver you're using. It'll be something like "vga", and you have to set it to something like "fgl" or "ati". Don't set the value unless you're sure, as I'm just working from memory.

ive never gotten the ATI control panel to launch in slackware... it does not install with the setup. It puts a few tar.gz packages.. but if you extract them.. the control panel still will not work.. at least for me anyways :shrugs:
Edit: made change.. slackware was linux.. and was not what i meant

I was running gnome, and even tried launching it from the terminal. IIRC the pathname is something like /usr/X11R6/bin/fglrxpanel. I'm under Windows right now so I can't check.
I saw about 3 compressed files that had the same kind of filename, so I tried extracting one with bzip2. I'm such a newbie and didn't know what to do after that so just gave up. I guess I don't realy need the control panel, all it does is set things like the gamma, there's not realy any performance options, right?
And is it possible that I have 3d acceleration enabled even though it won't go higher than 60FPS? Like I explained, I think I set it not to go past my refresh rate (60hz) under fglrxconfig.
