fb: switching to amdgpudrmfb from efi vga

hi,

i am trying to set up a computer with an AMD Radeon Pro WX 2100 card:

https://pro.radeon.com/en/product/wx...n-pro-wx-2100/

I installed Slackware64 14.2, set up ELILO and upgraded the kernel to 4.14.13, by taking the source and .config file from -current. Upon boot, the boot process freezes with the following message:

fb: switching to amdgpudrmfb from efi vga

any ideas?

UPDATE: I updated the system with slackpkg upgrade-all (firmware was upgraded, too) and now this problem is gone. X, however cannot start.

This is the error message:

I tried AlienBob's liveslack for current and everything seems to just work. So, as a last resort, I can switch to -current... not my primary choice for a workstation, but still...

I would probably give 4.15 a try. Right now it is still in RC status, but it is close to being finalized. They had MAJOR additions to amdgpu display code, and hopefully it can solve some (or all) of your issues.

Also, as an FYI, it would've probably been better for you to post your "update" as a reply. I didn't realize you had updated it after I read it the first time.

you are right, about the 'update'. The whole post is a bit of a mess. Sorry...

I installed -current and the video card is supported. I have not investigated performance yet, but I can try the 4.15 kernel and report here.
