I would like to use this thread to thank those who helped me in these 6 years as a poster on LQ. I joined LQ only because of Slackware. I never believed in the forum format but the alternative at that time was alt.os.linux.slackware which was infested by trolls.
I don't see any point in following Slackware any more because of the stubbornness of the Slackware crowd in thinking that smartphones and tablets are not proper computers and to be honest also because my recent posts were ignored.
Wow, 6 years but you didn't grow up enough to take disagreement in stride (or better yet, take action from such disagreement and build your own distro to prove a point/show that it can be done, etc?) You sure aren't trolling, right...
I would have liked to wish you good luck on your next distro, but no; rather, I wish you take your dramas elsewhere (and it is good, that you are,) and maybe there'd be little hope for you to think more about what you just did.
Even with Cyanogenmod there is one aspect from Android that you can not avoid...
Android doesn't use a full-fledged GNU/Linux OS. Cyanogenmod and Android both use BusyBox which is a full embedded GNU/Linux-like distribution, but BusyBox has lots of functionality missing to fit onto these devices.
Plus I have YET to see any Cyanogenmod or Android system come with a stock version of GCC or LLVM/Clang, so really you're very limited in applications.
Yes, you are right, until the OEMs of these devices are more forthcoming with specifications, white papers, etc. Little, if anything, can be done at all.
It's a completely moot point to argue that Slackware is backwards thinking. Slackware is forwards thinking as long as the platform that is targeted has viability to even be the subject of a port.

Thank you for what I've learnt here but it's time for me to move on.
Ottavio
When you where a baby, did your mother come running to you every time you wimpered? Becuase it seems you think that we all owe you an answer or should agreee with you.
The shadow of one's problems or issues may influence the situation(s) at hand. Too many variables that we do not have to make a valid assessment for ottavio's situation.
Or plainly stated, it could be nothing more than frustration(s).
Be very careful when walking in the dark, no telling what lays ahead literally(3).
'ottavio', I truly hope you return enlightened. From one Slacker to another, things will work out one way or the other if you really continue to work on the problem(s);

As does this...
What happened to attacking the argument not the man...? Especially considering he's actually left...
As I said, it's a rant thread and it's attention seeking. I actually think it's partially down to his suggestion for closing/repurposing the slack - installation forum being "ignored", among other things.
I half agree with Reaper, though it's entirely possible the OP will find another distro to better suit his needs. One can do that however without resorting to a public show like this one.
I do have a CB radio, though; who *doesn't* find it fun to listen to all the truckers chatting as they barrel down the town's only significant highway?
You know, that does sound like fun. Maybe I will get a CB radio! But I still won't develop on my smartphone.

+1. I do not agree with Ottavio, but those comments are harsh, bordering on bullying. I think Ottavio should choose whatever OS he thinks is best for his needs, and if he wishes to come back to Slackware one day, I for one will welcome him.
I do not see grounds for verbal abuse or getting personal. Ottavio is free to choose the software that works best for him. I have no problem with him leaving Slackware, although naturally it is a pity seeing someone go. I just do not see how he could feel "ignored".
And he did characterize us Slackware users as follows:

It was not an attack. I was trying to figure out where he is coming from before I made an assumptions. He is the one that made accusations, expected his post to be answered with in 24 hours and he is the one that called people names. If he was a child that mommie ran to him at every wimper then I can understand his thought process. But if he is just here to stir the pot and use us as a whipping boy, that is a different story. Not everyone reacts well to kindness and not everyone deserves a kind response. Sometimes a kind response is looked at as a weakness or blood in the water.
The other forums work like a charm on my mini tablet, probably because their webmasters are not lost in a religious war against the tablet but get down to business and get the job done.
It's a conspiracy... Jeremy from LQ and Pat Volkerding have joined forces to bring down the tablet...
I can't take a poster who would post something like that very seriously. To me the thread is just trolling. Perhaps a typical "I want to leave - now to create an outgoing stink" type of thing?
Anyone who posts incessantly about the death of desktop/laptop PC and that everyone needs to "embrace the tablet" probably isn't going to listen to reason - so I honestly don't see why anyone should listen to them.
I used to be a Debian user - and you used to get a lot of this kind of thing on the Debian forums - i.e. people ranting that Debian needs to do/support/be like xyz, but not really offering any kind of reasoning nor volunteering to contribute anything.
I guess most users today are just "without knowledge"... I mean, in my youth, using a computer required at least some knowledge, what is a "folder" what is a "file", etc...
For the better and the worse, now with a mainstream usage, majority don't even know how a computer works, that "stuff doesn't appears magically" you know the "Steve Jobs" cultists believe everything is simple... They don't know how to program or anything... How would you expect those people to have rationalized thinking ? Realistic logic ?
That reminds me something, "when I was a boy", before learning programming, and before willing to become a "game developer", I was yet willing to become a "game designer" (a toy designer more precisely... You know legos stuff...). Anyway when I was talking about that to "adult people" (supposedly being far wiser with far more knowledge than me) I realized most people, all parents, never thought that there were adult engineer behind their children's toys... I dunno what they think, I guess they believed they were all god creation, or some sorcerer making them happen, or maybe some kind of machine that you just ask for something and it would make it to you... Sadly, the mainstream usage of smartphones, tablets, windows and MacOS make the "masses" the "crowd", unsuspecting of the whole complexity of the technology behind it, and like "rotten kids" expect stuff to be easy, and natural.
Well it wouldn't be a problem if they were not aggressive, but I can't count the number of times I've been insulted as "cunt" (in french ), trying to explain some nuances to totally noobs... And how many stupid questions as "why don't you make a game with billions of NPCs or billions of triangles", while being totally hermetic to memory and processing constraints... Some people think that the adage "if you want you can" is self sufficient...
Sometimes I lose my nerves
Cheers
Garry.
(Sorry for the "rant" and the lousy sentences, that's what you get when you read an angry french guy ).

Reason: Fixed typos.
ottavio, this is not intended to mock you in anyway, just hoping you might reconsider your decision. Abandoning a distribution because of something you didn't like about it's forum? Seriously?
