fail to exec modprobe after compiling kernel

Hello,

I compiled kernel using instruction from this forum. After reboot I get massage:
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k binfmt-464c errno = 8

Boot failes.

Kernel is 2.4.26.

What could be the problem and how to fix it.

Thanks.
Mario

what exactly are you trying to say with installing modutils, to make modules_install again? OK I did it, result is the same.
I also noticed during boot massage, something like ERROR...../proc/dri. I couldn't catch it all but obviously soimething is wron with that /proc/dri

Sounds like /etc/rc.d/rc.modules is trying to load a module that you have already compiled into the kernel or you have left completely out. You'll have to boot with a rescue disk and edit rc.modules and comment out that line.
