For those unfortunate enough to be stuck with an Intel Mac running Slackware, I made a SlackBuild script for facetimehd, a driver for the FacetimeHD webcam on 2011+ Macbooks. Tarball with source included at https://ltlnx.tw/software/res/facetimehd.tar.gz.
I won't upload it to SBo since it involves cloning a Github repo and running a script to download and extract the firmware files.
Also Kamoso from KDE won't work with this driver for some reason, but it worked with Firefox and mplayer tv://.

My mbp is literally my favorite machine out of all the gizmos I own. It runs Slackware excellently and I couldn’t be happier that a laptop a decade old is still so viable to use.
I don’t use my FaceTime cam but I do know it operates under GNOME’s “Cheese” on Slackware without any additional drivers (outside of gnome being additional, anyway). I’ll have to try this out for fun.

It does? Mine only works with the driver installed (close-to-vanilla Slackware -current). The GNOME install may be doing some magic
Also does your Macbook suspend and resume correctly? Suspend/resume is my main pain point with this machine, otherwise it's pretty decent.

There may be a included library, I'd honestly have to check, there's so many at this point that I can't possibly remember them all!

Mostly-- I say mostly because there is a random time when it will suspend and insta-wake and I'll have to do it again but normally, yes it suspends/resumes without an issue. Mind you, my only use of this is also from within GNOME. I keep a 16gb swap (my amount of ram) and it just works. I suspend it and use the usb ports to power my pinebook pro which i sit atop the mbp and use. It does take about 30~ seconds to resume though, that could be better performed, but at least it works. I can't say GNOME is what makes it work or not, I'll have to try it in some other things as well, but my hunch is that it will work just as well.

Suspend only works here occasionally, on certain kernel versions. Hibernate worked reliably though, but also takes about 30 seconds to resume.
Probably is just a codec issue, I know in the past my camera didnt work due to missing vp8 codec in cheese, not related to mac but that was the only thing needed.
To check if you really need the driver I suggest you look at the kernel dmesg and see if it recognizes the camera. But probably you know that better than i
