external hard driving not working after upgrading to 2.6.2

so i just upgraded to 2.6.2 and everything is working fine except my external hard drive. when i first installed slack 9.1 with 2.4.22, i plugged in my drive, booted, and saw during the boot up that it was sda1. i did mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb and everything worked great! however, now after upgrading to 2.6.2, i boot up, i SEE the drive is detected just fine, it even says using scsi emulation. however, when i try to mount sda1, it says not a valid block device. can anyone help me out?

If I were you I would recompile the kernel a few more times and have a good look at all the menus. Some of the options depend on others which are not obvious so use the ? option and read the help it gives you. Enable Support for SCSI disks, /proc filesystem and a few things from the USB menu. Also, if it's detecting the drive OK maybe the problem is with support for the NTFS filesystem. I couldn't mount NTFS until I'd enabled support for CONFIG_NLS_ISO8859_15=y on the Native language support menu. Good luck.
