explodepkg and makepkg *txz

Hi all, i'm trying to modify a slackware package off a slackware iso... i can explode the package and alter the package but when i try to install it in a chroot enviroment..it just gives me a untarred package in the chroot enviroment..the command i gave was chroot -root /var/chroot /package

I don't know if it's the way i makepkg or what?

the package is a *txz file and from what i read makepkg supports it.

Ok, i've never tried to modify a package before so tried etc-13.013-i486-1.txz from a/ on the slackware disc. I copied the file into a folder, used explodepkg and the created a folder called etc-13.013-i486-1 and moved the folders from the explodepkg command into etc-13.013-i486-1. I use the makepkg command to create the etc*.txz again, but when i try to install it in /var/chroot i get this

bash-4.1# ls /var/chroot/
. .. etc-13.013-i486-1 var

My commands are.
cp /cdrom/slackware/a/etc-13.013-i486-1.txz /root/package
cd /root/package && explodepkg etc-13.013-i486-1.txz
mkdir etc-13.013-i486-1 && mv etc/ usr/ var/ tmp/ install/ etc-13.013-i486-1
makepkg /root/etc-13.013-i486-1.txz etc-13.013-i486-1
installpkg -root /var/chroot /root/etc-13.013-i486-1.txz

But when i ls the chroot folder i get

bash-4.1# ls /var/chroot/
. .. etc-13.013-i486-1 var

thanks

This command is not how you use makepkg.

I suggest you read the man page for makepkg and see how your supposed to use it.

The package name goes last.

Try this:

cd into the package directory
makepkg -l y -c n /root/etc-13.013-i486-1.txz
