Ok I am a Mandrake convert. I'm not going back. But I used to be able to run Evolution with only the KDE wm installed. I tried to get Evolution 1.4 going on my new 9.1 box but It keeps asking for a ton of gnome files. Same for Grip and DVD::Rip. My question is this: Should I just go back and install the Gnome desktop even though I won't ever use it. I am actually going to try to get Fluxbox up again. But that is another ball game. I know some of you Slackware guru's will know how to do this. By the way the kernel recompile went well and I have smp running now. My BP6 has never run this fast.

The reason I ask is because I have aother machine (my my Tyan 2507T) that I want all these features on. I guess I use allot of gnome programs but don't run gnome as a desktop.

Slackware is really the way to go. I redid my smb server with a minimal install and it just flies compared to my old MDK setup. It seems much more responsive then rpm based machines. I guess its because I recompiled that kernel for that specific set up. I looked at the installed kernel from the rpm install and it had tons of stuff in there that I'd never use.

I have learned so much by just reading the posts in these forums. This is a great place to get your Slack on. Thanks to everyone in here.

You can avoid all the hassles of manually installing Evolution on Slack by installing Dropline instead. http://www.dropline.net/gnome/ Dropline is a large collection of frequently used packages, and it includes Evolution and all the supporting packages that Evolution needs. Installation of Dropline is fast and easy and I'd highly recommend it. (Note that Dropline will set your window manager to Gnome, but you can easily set it back to KDE by running xwmconfig.)
