As a sidenote, instead of using setuid to make program run as root it's more secure to use capabilities. It would be a nice learning experience to check which set of caps Xorg needs to run correctly.

@Lysander666: what all this has to do with Slackware? Linux general would be good place to go. I mean of course we can start to post anything here in this forum. But what then?

Because Slackware is the distro this is running on. Additionally, the responses I get on this board are [mostly] of a higher calibre than elsewhere on LQ.

Anyway, the point is academic now since the problem is solved.
