Question Ethernet Cant Start?

Hi, I had installed Slack 9.1 and my ethernet card (Linksys i believe) worked perfectly with the 2.4.22 Kernel. Then i tried upgrading the whole thing to 10 with swaret and all, but i found that my ethernet/internet didnt work. So, thinking that i had screwed something up during upgrade.. i d/led the Slack 10 install disks and installed without hitch, but after I found that my ethernet didnt work still, so i updated to kernel 2.6.7--still nothing, so here i am Slack 10 w/Dropline Gnome and 2.6.7....(by the way im writing from my Windows box(damn))

Thnx--
Steve

You could try
/sbin/lspci | grep Ethernet

To get infos for your net card

The output

Code:
00:0a.0 Ethernet Controller : Linksys Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 model NC100 (rev 11)
00:12.0 Ethernet Controller : VIA Technologies Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 74)
The Second is built in to my Motherboard.......

Also, In Gnome (Not sure bout KDE) there is something called Network Connections Manager and it has my eth0, and eth1 on it, but whenever i try to activate them they only stay activated for about 10 secs before the checkmark is gone and I'm guessing it is deactivate (is it a bug in some new package)

It seems that my 2.6 kernel can find my ethernet card, but when i boot to the old 2.4.26 kernel the internet works... Is there some modules that must be loaded or new Kernel options?
Help is gretly appreciated

Did you compile your network card's drivers into the kernel?

I'm not sure, So I will try to recompile, but first i have a question. in the past when i compile a 2.6.x kernel, it works but when i go to boot, its starts booting but then it goes to a Black screen with a blinking "_" cursor in the bottom left, I have been looking on google, but no one else seems to have an answer,
Thnx

Recompile. Make sure that you compile in VESA and the framebuffer seletions under Device Drivers menu (as well as your NIC drivers)
