eth0 (and eth1) lost on reboot


When I reboot my Slackware box after install it no longer detects eth0 or eth1.

trying ifconfig eth1 gives me a device not found/doesn't exist message

any ideas?

Try loading kernel modules for your nics first or run netconfig. The last one will try to detect and let you configure your nics. Depending on the Slack version you use you will have to load the modules by editing rc.modules for example.

i'll go try netconfig

I realized I know nothing about loading kernel modules

edit /etc/rc.d/rc.modules with your favorite editor
go to the ' Other network hardware drivers:' line and uncomment [remove # before line] the line that matches your nics
