Thanks phenixia, that was the issue. Here is the raw log file.

about your log posted in #17, make links ffprobe against static libvdpau, try adding LDFLAGS="-lXext" or LDFLAGS="/usr/lib64/libXext.so" to ffmpeg configure

sorry but i can't replicate your problem as i have all these libraries installed system-wide

Thank you gengisdave, adding "/usr/lib64/libXext.so" to ffmpeg's LDFLAGS fixed the issue. I got a complete package now. That is a bit odd since I didn't have to do this before but I am glad it worked.

it's a thing related to static/dynamic linking: (short way) ffmpeg links to a static libvdpau who refers to a function in libXext, linker can't find it because it's external to libvdpau and none said where to find it; in an all-dynamic scenario this shouldn't happen
