Error when trying to access hard disk.

Hi all, i just installed slack 12, added another user fired up kde, tried to get to any of the hard disks from the kde desktop and i get:

Quote:

A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to the recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "mount" error name "(unset)" destination "org.desktop.Hal")
Any ideas?

One day, in my free time, I will search for and count all the times this same question has been asked ... my bet is on at least 20-30 by now.

Doesn't that tell you that WE all are failing to underline the importance of Sticky threads enough ?

Hi,

Yes! But most newbies are not aware of the need to read. Or how and where to to get answers. Much easier to throw the bait on a hook out and catch the answer. Just that the bait is usually not large enough to catch the whooper.

So we whoopers must spit the hook out and get more bait!

Seriously, a lot of the problems could be alleviated if the requester would do some research on their own. But that would be IDEAL. The M$ mindset is the problem. Hold my hand and do this for me. Even if it's wrong but get it done.

With Linux, we need to walk the fine line to assist whenever we can. Sure it is frustrating at times to repeat or reference the same problem(s) but that does show us the weakness or fault points that must be addressed.

Slackware is the best as far as I'm concerned. Just that it's not a turn key and people fail to prepare themselves for the installation. Therefore when problems do arise then havoc begins in their mind. Panic! Instead of backing off an looking at the problem with proper assessments thus leading to ways of solving the same. Add in a little patience to sooth!
