Error when install Kde 4.1.3 from source
 
I want to insttal kde 4 from source because i dont likke testing versions.
I followed this:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Build/KDE4
but i dont use kde-devel user. I used my account

When I try install kdelibs I get this error whith cmakekde:

-- pkgconfig didn't find strigi, couldn't check strigi version

That statement made me laugh. What do you think you are doing different than Slackware? If anything, the Slackware /testing/kde/packages stuff is well-tested and works.
And as you already found out, why not trust the Slackware developers who created these KDE 4.1.3 packages for you, instead of mucking with source code and failing in the attempt?

Slackware's concept of "testing" means "stable enough, but not good enough to be included in Slackware itself at this moment". It has nothing to do with sloppy work.

You probably installed the deps in the wrong order.

Thanks for rerply.

I had allways problems with betas (not in slackware, i'am new to slackware) and for a long time i dont use what is in testing but if you say it is stable i will try.

KDE 4.1.3 is stable enough yes, but it lacks some of the functionality you can find in kde 3.5.10.

Alien Bob, is there any chances to see KDE 4.2-beta2 on slackware's ftp anytime soon? :-)

Read the KDE4.1 announce page for more information: http://kde.org/announcements/4.1/

K3b does not burn discs yet, but with the kde3-compat packages in slackware-current/testing you will be able to use a lot of the KDE3 applications in your new KDE4 installation (such as K3b).

I hope so but I have no idea when. Pat is contemplating the new development cycle and may want to wait until the end of this month when KDE4.2 is officially released. At the moment he is enjoying an X-mas break...

Eric,

The README in /slackware-current/testing/packages/kde4/ is dated Aug 12, 2008 and the latest packages are dated Nov 24, 2008. Are you aware of any "surprises" that may come about not covered in the README by installing the pkgs?

Pat barely makes a living out of Slackware. He is not celebrating lots of money pouring in, at all. Which is another gentle reminder to all readers to use the Store for a small donation if you do not want to buy the DVD or CD set and still want to ensure that Slackware survives (if you can spare the money of course).

Rather, Pat takes a well-deserved break from long hours compiling, tweaking and tuning Slackware's scripts so that he can start fresh on a new round.

I installed kde4 from testing and it is realy good.
I used always used gnome and there i made custom shorcuts for multimediakeys, when i pressed play then it is started amarok and begin to play music. Now in kde I dont know how get it working the same. Every multimedia keys are working but i want the play/pause button to start amarok when it is not running.
Please help

I've been thorughly reading KDE's techbase since I'm also thinking about giving KDE4 a shot.

If you review the all the information within the Getting Started section there's a paragraph that reads:

Strigi itself has a few dependencies as well: you will need the libraries and headers
for libz, libbz2, openssl (libcrypto or libssl), libclucene (>=0.9.16a
 but watch out: version 0.9.17 does not work), and either libxml2 or libexpat.
This is in the prerequisites section. http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Star.../Prerequisites
