ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'

when i startup i get a blank screen. but, everything has worked fine for 2 weeks!

i did get xwindows to start by reverting to a backup of my xorg.conf (the one before i actually installed the nvidia drivers) i tried changing "Driver 'nv'" to "Driver 'nvidia'" but it still did the blank screen thing. So with "Driver 'nv'" everything works just fine.

So I figured I'd just download the NVIDIA drivers and reinstall them but then i got this error:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).

any ideas?

well 2 weeks ago is when i first installed the nvidia drivers, and everything worked fine.. i can't figure out why as if out of no where my x server would stop working when using the nvidia driver.

so im sure i built it against the proper kernel sources and i have rivafb and nvidiafb blacklisted in modprobe.conf.

Just guessing here, try adding: Option "NvAGP" "1" to your screen section
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "** NVIDIA (generic) [nv]"
    Monitor "mymonitor"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Option "NvAGP" "1"
whats the output of dmesg and modprobe nvidia?
No need to post your xorg.conf, seems like a cross post here:

Keep and eye on http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...hapter-05.html
